Rosa Parks
Students enjoyed a video and learning activities from BrainPopJr.com about Rosa Parks and her fight for equal rights. After watching the video, students worked in a group to answer questions about what they learned and then wrote about how things have changed since Rosa Parks first refused to give up her seat on the bus in Montgomery Alabama!

Following the video, this is what our students had to say:
Next we discussed another important event during the 1950's: Hawaii became our 50th state!
Students read an article about Hawaii in Time for Kids. They learned many interesting facts including an important Hawaiian word: Aloha- that means "Hello", "Goodbye" and "Love."

As a study aid, we used Read and Write for Google to highlight important text and create a vocabulary list.
Students learned that Pineapple is grown in Hawaii... So we cooked and painted pineapples!
It's all about the "flip" when making Pineapple Upside Down Cake!
